People that study psychology need to choose an area of specialization if they want to graduate, psychologists can specialize from a wide variety of different areas, all areas are included in groups, these are the groups:
-Behavioral and Cellular Neuroscience: Studies the level of neurotransmitters, neurons and basic biological processes. You can study Behavioral and Cellular Neuroscience at Texas A&M University, finishing the specialization will cost around US$ 41,000.
-Clinical Psychology: Helps people with disorders, it is based on doing therapies to the patient. You can study Clinical Psychology at Tufts University with a cost of US$ 38,000 for finishing the specialization.
-Cognitive Psychology: Studies mental processes like attention, memory, language use, etc. You can study Cognitive Psychology at Spelman College, finishing the specialization costs US$ 39,000
-Developmental Psychology: Studies the changes that human beings have through their whole life.You can study Developmental Psychology in University of Columbia, it costs US$ 41,000 to finish the specialization.
-Industrial/Organizational Psychology: Studies human behavior in the workplace. You can study I/O Psychology in Bradley University, it will cost around US$ 40,000 to finish the specialization.
-Social Psychology:Studies how people influence other human´s thoughts, feelings and behaviors. You can study Social Psychology at Augsberg College, it will cost around US$ 38,000 to finish the specialization
DEMAND;
For a psychologist the demand will come from the people that have an “unhealthy” lifestyle like smoking, alcoholism, obesity, or just different problems with society or him/her self. People that needs prevention and critical treatment, increases the number of assistance programs from psychologists because psychology helps people deal with personal problems like depression, mental disorders, marriage/ family problems, job stress and addiction. Also because of the increasing number of elderly people the demand for psychologists, especially in gero-psychology (branch of the psychology that helped the understanding of the eldest) will increase. Since some psychologists have been in this “career” for longer than the rest, veterans psychologists have or use to receive more money than the new psychologists. The salary according to Bureau of Labor Statistics information for Psychologists states that in 2010 the median pay for this profession focused on behavioral and mental process was at about $68,640 a year.
